Anodising and colouring:
When aluminium is anodised the natural oxidation process is
accelerated.
The top layer of the aluminium is converted into aluminium oxide.
Through an electrochemical process an oxide layer is created
in baths with diluted sulphuric acid. This layer protects the
aluminium in a sustainable way against corroding influences
and provides a beautiful, mat-glossy finish. The great advantage
of anodising compared to a paint finish is that the metal aspect
of the aluminium is retained. |

The
obtained anodising layer can be coloured, optionally.
This colouring is done in various ways:
the most frequently applied method is the so-called immersion
colouring. Hereby the anodised material is immersed in a bath
with an (inorganic) colour. Alucol applies this technique for
the colours gold, light gold and champagne. These colours have
a very high degree of colourfastness and light-resistance.
Another method is the two-phase electrolytic colouring. The
great advantage of this technique is that the colour has the
greatest degree of colourfastness and light-resistance, which
means that it is completely UV- resistant. Alucol applies this
technique for the colours titanium-look, bronze tints and black.
Another method is the so-called interference colouring process
(multicolor). This process is also a two-phase electrolytic
process. The colours blue and blue grey are obtained through
this process. These colours are also completely colourfast,
light-resistant and therefore UV-resistant. They are therefore
also very suitable for outside applications. Alucol is the only
company in the Benelux that is able to apply this technique.

Maintenance:
Anodised aluminium
must be maintained.
In principle it should be treated as glass: it must be cleaned.
When cleaning aluminium it is vital only use cleansing agents
that do not corrode the anodised aluminium. Avoid alkaline cleansing
agents or acidic products, but use neutral substances (PH between
6-8).
The use of aluminium brushes, aluminium wool, solvents, scourers,
sandpaper etc. is not allowed! It is advised to clean the anodised
aluminium at least 1x a year, depending on the environment in
which you work.
